PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Environmental Specialist champions Clow’s environmental initiatives on the front-lines by inspiring, educating and guiding employees in environmental responsibility. This role creates a better future by implementing environmental initiatives, regulations and requirements.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Responsible for prompting, encouraging, and contributing to the environmental department pollution prevention projects.
Organize and collaborate with fellow environmental team members to lead quarterly environmental awareness meetings for Clow employees.
Attend 3 professional development events per year.
CORE FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
1. Compliance (65%) – Ensure 100% compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and initiatives, Air Regulations, RCRA, SPCC, SWPPP, NPDES, DOT, and EPCRA. Assisting Environmental Management with maintenance of the Environmental Management System, participating in compliance audits for both Clow and other McWane facilities, performing inspections, meeting with regulators, and coordinating maintenance activities. Provide assistance in any facility emergency. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of legal and organizational requirements through diligent research and training.
2. Environmental Advocacy (20%) – Instill a sense of ownership for environmental processes throughout employees’ day-to-day activities through personal conversation, employee education, and pushing accountability in the workplace. Take ownership of employee training, ensuring content is current and applicable. Share insights on how each employee’s role affects the greater picture of environmental responsibility at Clow. Regularly communicate with employees to create accountability and make sure they have the necessary tools to successfully achieve 100% compliance. Maintain an open dialogue with management on the impact of environmental regulations. This includes intuitive and practical environmental reporting to help management make the most informed decisions.
3. Environmental Improvements & Projects (10%) – Take initiative to find and propose new ways to reduce pollution from Clow. Engage other employees in this discussion and lead or assist in these projects.
4. Community Engagement (5%) – Create and maintain connection to the greater environmental community through building key relationships with local regulators, consultants, and other industry peers. |
